Sergio Bocanegra was born and raised in Juarez, Chihuahua, a Mexico border city adjacent to El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso and obtained his degree in Business Administration. He has more than 25 years experience in the life and health insurance industry.

Sergio began his insurance career as an agent with John Hancock Life Insurance Company. After a few years, he opened his own agency targeting the international life and health insurance market in the El Paso-Juarez borderland community. He then became a regional sales coordinator, serving diverse communities and agencies throughout the Southwest U.S.

“The insurance industry and profession had always been a great fit for me, allowing me to be my own boss and have the freedom and flexibility to enjoy life with the love of my life, best friend and wife Armida, and our daughter Patricia. My profession had allowed us to build a nice home, travel, have a good life and send our daughter to private schools in our community.

“However, after years in the industry, with my daughter in college and local market conditions changing, I was in search of something that would leap my family from a good life to a great one. Little did I know that Philip Hudgins and the beginning of National Agents Alliance were about to enter my life.”

Through a friend and professional acquaintance of many years, Alberto Vega, Sergio met Philip Hudgins and Keith Arrants in 1999. When Philip and Andy Albright started NAA in 2002, Sergio was eager to join the team.

Sergio found rapid success with NAA, earning an income ring in his second full year with the company. He went on to earn a ring each of the next three years (2004-2006).

“My life has improved and prospered along with NAA’s impressive success to date,” Sergio said. “The income I have earned through NAA has allowed my wife and me to build a new home with beautiful and serene views of the Franklin Mountains in El Paso, Texas.

“Furthermore, NAA has given me a business of my own without feeling alone. Philip, Andy, Barry and the entire NAA leadership, along with our corporate culture of sharing and growing, have taught me so much about the insurance industry.

“Moreover, I have had the satisfaction of protecting families and introducing others to the NAA system. I am very proud to be a part of an organization that values and energizes itself from diversity of cultures, backgrounds, genders and experiences. NAA is an organization that wants to protect America, including the highly important and growing Hispanic population which I am proud to be a part of and have served in my career. In fact, NAA has encouraged and supported initiatives and partnerships with leading insurance carriers that are developing highly qualified bilingual departments and staff dedicated to serve the growing Hispanic market in the U.S.

“On a personal level, the NAA opportunity has given me the ability to open the doors of my business to my wife and my only daughter, Patricia, a proud UT El Paso M.B.A. honors graduate. NAA has allowed me and my family to build a business and legacy for the next generation, and that is truly priceless.”

Sergio encourages new agents to work hard for their goals. “My advice to new or prospective agents is to have a strong and true burning desire for success. In our industry, a strong work ethic effectively managed with persistence and constant activity, is king.

“Become a student of your business and never stop reading, learning and growing. The inspiring philosophies that my wife and I read in our younger years such as Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, books by Dale Carnegie and Og Mandino, and many other great ones, have materialized themselves and are alive and well at NAA. I am proud to be part of the NAA family and look forward to continuous growth and success with them.”

Sergio, Armida and Patricia, when not working in their agency, are avid movie fans and restaurant goers. They enjoy musical theatre, concerts, reading and walking outdoors in contact with nature. They also enjoy traveling on their own and to the insurance carriers’ trips and destinations reserved for the top agents. In fact, Sergio and Armida will be traveling to Las Vegas, NV as a result of Sergio placing first in a nationwide En Español contest sponsored by Old Mutual Financial Network.
